Crack Addiction
Crack is a form of cocaine that is cooked from raw cocaine using baking soda and water. Crack is easier to smoke than normal cocaine and produces an enormous euphoric high. Crack is normally a white/gray to yellow rock hard substance. Crack received its name because of the crackling sound it makes while smoked. Crack cocaine is highly addictive. The "high" lasts anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on dose and frequency of use.
Consequences
Consequences of crack cocaine use are numerous. The drugs powerful high leads users to continue using in spite of the fact they are suffering devastating consequences. Many users exhaust all their financial resources to pay for the drug and begin to commit crimes to support their habit. Other users wind up homeless because they are unable to break the cycle of addiction. Crack use causes increased heat rate, increased blood pressure, extreme paranoia, and aggressiveness. Crack is an epidemic in the United States causing upheaval in all social and economic classes. Many crack cocaine users experience heart attack and/or strokes which many times are fatal. Crack cocaine releases huge amounts of dopamine for the user which creates the euphoric effect. This is what causes the addiction.
