Marijuana

Marijuana also referred to as pot or weed is the most commonly abused drug in the United States. It is a dry green shredded mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves derived from the cannabis plant. Marijuana normally is smoked but it can be eaten or brewed as a tea. Most users smoke marijuana as a cigarette (joint), or through a pipe. The active chemical in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydracannabanol better known as THC. THC sets off a series of reactions in the brain that leads to the high user's experience.

Consequences

Users report anxiety, depression, and psychological disturbances during and after use of marijuana. Many users report disturbances in daily life functions. Such as inability to learn and retain new information. Studies show that marijuana users are more likely to be unable to accumulate intellectual, job, or social skills. Studies also prove that marijuana users are far less likely to graduate from high school and/or college compared to their non-marijuana using peers. Workers who use marijuana are far more likely to have an on the job accident. Marijuana abusing workers are tardy, absent, and have a higher job turnover rate.
