Vicodin Addiction

Drug Abuse

Vicodin

Vicodin is most commonly prescribed for its pain relieving properties. Vicodin is more commonly referred to as a narcotic. Even when taking Vicodin in conjunction with a doctor's order its use can be dangerous and potentially fatal. Vicodin works by blocking messages of pain from entering the brain. Vicodin also provide a feeling of euphoria for the user shortly after being taken.

Consequences

Long term use of Vicodin causes tolerance to the drug and users must begin to take more and more to achieve the same effect. Vicodin users develop a physical dependence to the drug. If they don't consistently take Vicodin they develop flu like symptoms that manifest themselves as restlessness, irritability, cold flashes, vomiting, and muscle pain. A large single dose of Vicodin can lead to a fatal overdose.
